The irony is that although the only "ex cathedra" statement made by the person who sits in the chair of Peter since 1870 is the Assumption of Mary, the mother of Jesus, it has certainly dampened the spirit of open discussion.
I prefer more irreverence, more controversy, more conversation and spirited debate. I also have a point of view, which I am sometimes, even ofttimes, willing to let go of, and which will be probably become pretty obvious if you read even a few of these posts.
